Williams part ways with chief designer

Chief designer Ed Wood has left Williams after 12 years with the team citing “personal reasons” for his departure.

Wood, having previously worked at Ferrari and Renault, joined Williams from Prodrive in 2006.

However, after 12 years with the Grove team and a wretched start to this year’s championship, Williams have confirmed his departure.

“We can confirm that Ed Wood has decided to leave Williams for personal reasons,” the team said.

“As chief designer, Ed has been instrumental in many successes during his time with the team, including the FW36 and FW37 cars which secured third place in the Constructors’ Championship in 2014 and 2015, respectively.

“The team would like to express its gratitude to Ed for his hard work over the past 12 years; his experience, skill and passion for engineering has been a huge asset to Williams.”

His exit from Williams comes in the wake of a dismal start to this season for the team.

The Grove team has bagged just four points leaving them bottom of the Constructors’ Championship.
