Williams Profile
Still arguably Formula One’s most respected privateer team, the shine has been taken off Williams’ past achievements in recent days.
Debut: 1978 Argentine Grand Prix
Drivers’ titles: 7
Constructors’ titles: 9
The Grove-based team, still under the guidance of Frank Williams, first entered Formula One back in 1978.
The team had a purple run in the 80s and 90s, winning nine Constructors’ titles and seven Drivers’ crowns, the last being in 1997.
However, rising costs and big money entries meant Williams soon fell down the pecking order.
The team barely featured in 2013 with just five World Championship points leaving them worst of the established teams.
Whether Williams can return to former glory – or even to the podium – remains to be seen although one cannot fault their efforts.
