Wolff and Rosberg on the wandering marshal

Toto Wolff and Nico Rosberg aired their thoughts on the race marshal that was still on the track cleaning debris after the safety car was pulled in following Nico Hulkenberg’s crash.

According to Autosport, there was a miscommunication between race control and the marshal that was still on the Marina Bay Circuit after Turn 1.

Wolff said that it was a dangerous situation for everyone involved at the time and added it was a relief that nobody ended up in the hospital.

“It was very dangerous,” said the Austrian.

“We must give credit to race control because they restarted the race very quickly, and this is what we have asked them – not to spend endless time behind the safety car, and that probably triggered that one of the marshals, meaning well, was out there cleaning up the mess.

“This seems to happen and I’m really happy it ended up with nobody being hurt.”

From a drivers’ perspective, Singapore Grand Prix champion Nico Rosberg claimed that since the safety car ended so abruptly, the restart surprised everyone, including the marshals.

“I think just as we didn’t expect the restart, he didn’t either, I think, because the restart was somehow pretty abrupt,” he explained.

“But he got out of the way just about in time so it was OK. Of course we all had to drive a bit carefully through there.”
