Mercedes boss Toto Wolff has said he cannot recall another season where Lewis Hamilton has acquitted himself as well as he has done this season.
The three-time World Champion was unable to convert a sixth career pole position in Melbourne into a race victory after Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel successfully completed the 'over-lap' at Albert Park before crusing to the chequered flag.
However, Wolff believes that result does not fully reflect the level that Hamilton is currently operating at with the Silver Arrows.
"Lewis is the best Lewis that I've seen in the last four years, both on and off track. He has become a pillar of this team and he proved that in Melbourne," said Wolff.
Wolff has also praised Valtteri Bottas for his efforts so far after finishing third in his first race for Mercedes.
"Valtteri has settled in well and performed at a high level, rising above all the pressure and seamlessly taking over from Nico," Wolff added.
