Toto Wolff has rubbished suggestions that Nico Rosberg is the favourite to win this year's title, saying there is "so much more to come" in this season.
The German's lead in the championship race grew to 36 points in Sunday's Chinese Grand Prix as he romped to his third win of this season.
In sharp contrast, Lewis Hamilton had a trying weekend in Shanghai as he started the race from the back of the grid and got caught out in the Lap 1 chaos.
He recovered to finish P7.
But despite Rosberg's sublime form and Hamilton's woes, their Mercedes motorsport boss insists it is too early in the championship to say Rosberg is the favourite to win the title.
Wolff told PA Sport: "It is just three out of 21, so statistically there is so much more to come that you can't speak about any favourite.
"At this stage of the season it's about collecting points without looking at the championship.
"Lewis has every reason to be upset about the result. He wouldn't be a three-time World Champion if that didn't upset him, but I have no doubt he will make a quick recovery.
"The gap is substantial but it is very early days. He is mentally very strong so I have no doubt that it will be close at the end."
