Sebastian Vettel has been named BBC Overseas Sports Personality of the Year on the back of winning a fourth consecutive World title.
The 2013 campaign was another record-breaking season for the German as he became only the fourth driver after Juan Manuel Fangio, Alain Prost and Schumacher to win four Championships.
He also won 13 races this campaign, matching Michael Schumacher’s record, while he became the first driver to win nine consecutive races in one season.
“It’s been a fantastic year,” Vettel, who did not attend the awards ceremony in Leeds, told the audience by video link, said.
“Thank you very much for the award – it’s something very special if I look at the list of previous winners… I like to collect trophies, so I think I’ll have to have a special place to put this one.”
The Red Bull driver joins the illustrious company of world 100m and 200m record holder Usain Bolt who won the award in 2012, 2009 and 2008 while tennis stars Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer also won it in recent years.
